Microneedling

Firmer, smoother, healthier skin

Microneedling leaves your skin looking youthful, firm, and smooth. It is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that is usually painless when numbing cream is used. Using precise needles, our FDA approved device stimulates skin turnover and collagen production, revealing glowing and healthier looking skin.

Microneedling

What to expect

Your Aesthetician will apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area, to ensure you are as comfortable as possible, during the treatment. Once the numbing cream takes its effect, the treatment will begin. Your appointment will last between one and two hours, depending on how many areas you would like to be treated.

During your Microneedling treatment, very small, fine needles will be used to puncture the surface of the skin, in a controlled area. These needles create micro-channels and the body responds to this treatment by increasing collagen production in the targeted area. Here at Ocean Wood Aesthetics, we use the Exceed Pen for our Microneedling treatments, which is the world’s only double FDA approved Microneedling device.

Microneedling FAQs

In the short term, Microneedling makes skin look radiant from the inflammation and superficial swelling, so your skin will appear luminous and plump for a couple of weeks after the treatment. It may take three or four treatments, three or four weeks apart, to produce the best result, it all depends on your body’s cellular turnover rate and your age.

  • Facial rejuvenation
  • Scar reduction
  • Anti-ageing
  • Reducing the appearance of large pores
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Dark spots or patches on your skin (hyperpigmentation)

  • Hair Loss (also called Alopecia)

There is minimal downtime following the treatment but expect a little redness for up to 24 hours, particularly if the area of concern has deep areas of scarring such as with pitted acne or stretch marks.

Almost anyone can have the treatment as long as they do not have any active infections, or any known wound healing problems. It is advised that Microneedling is not suitable for people with an active skin infection, active acne or Keloid scarring.

After the treatment, some temporary side effects may occur. The procedure causes short-term swelling, redness and sometimes flaking skin. This will only last for a few days and most clients can return to wearing makeup within 24 hours of the treatment taking place.

In general you can expect the results of microneedling treatments to last for about three to five months. The longevity of the results depends on two factors; how long new collagen lasts in your skin and the degree of your skin concerns. People who need to build a lot of collagen to correct severe skin concerns will likely have initial results that last for only a few months, while people who have mild concerns may have longer results.

The quality and durability of collagen produced with this treatment are related to several factors, including your age, your stress, and your skin maintenance. Younger people build new collagen more easily and can also hold onto collagen for longer periods than people with mature skin. A stressful lifestyle can break collagen down more quickly, along with tobacco use and unprotected exposure to sunlight.

If you have had Microneedling for acne scars these will not come back. As part of the natural aging process you may lose some volume overtime, making residue scars some what more noticeable. However your microneedling treatments will make your skin smoother in the long-term.
